Best Raptor Ever – 31st Bracket

Sure, a broad question and one that could never be answered. But then we never thought we would be a .500 team this year, did we…

What we’ve done is come up with a knock-out bracket of Raptor players with the intention of crowning one player as the “best”. Up to you what that means: best, favourite, cutest, lesser of all evils…whatever. If nothing else, it can keep us from stabbing our eyes out with a pen.

Each bracket will be up for a few days and you can vote using the poll buttons beside this post.

  1. this one is over!

  2. Let’s get the players from the Best Raptor Ever to vote on the Best Raptor Coach Ever.

  3. Are we going to have best GM ever too? What about best commentator? How about dumbest Team Canada coach ever?

  4. it upsets me that smitch is leading best coach ever. carter was the best coach we had by far, and if he didn’t launch a law suit against camby during the playoffs, his tenure would have been MUCH longer. i am surprised he hasn’t got another gig somewhere else. the guy ran plays and managed the best team we have had to date. malone should be second…

  5. Maybe it’s just me and my faltering memory, but our first three coaches were much better (X’s & O’s) than our last three.

That being said, it’s the last three that stayed on as coach in the NBA the longest.

  6. except for o’neil, he had like a 14 day tenure…also, can’t really include darrell walker as a coach…he was more of an interim puppet.

  7. but i agree spudz, first few were better then the last few.

  8. Just playing devils advocate: What is better — a coach who can draw plays or a coach who wins more games? These two things don’t necessarily come hand-in-hand. A lot of college coaches are great X’s and O’s guys, but how many have succeeded in the NBA?

Here are the records and winning percentages of our coaches:
    Mitchell 148-180 (0.451)
    O’Neill 33-49 (0.402)
    Wilkens 113-133 (0.459)
    Carter 73-92 (0.442)
    Walker 41-90 (0.313)
    Malone 21-61 (0.256)

How about ability to get the best out of a team with limited talent, versus the ability to manage egos of a very talented team? Many have agreed that the Raptors overachieved in the year we won 47 games with Mitchell. Does that mean he deserves more credit? Which team was more talented, the Carter’s 99-00, or Mitchell’s 06-07 team?
