T.J. Ford is a special talent who, when his game is right, is on a very short list of game-changing point guards in the NBA. He is afraid of nothing and has a desire to improve that may not be obvious to his critics but his entirely obvious to the coaching staff. This is just to say that as a restricted free agent next summer, the minimum contract offer that Calderon will sign is the full mid-level, which every team in the NBA can offer and several undoubtedly will. But if Kirk Hinrich is worth $10-million a year, is it not possible that Calderon is worth just as much? Can the Raptors have $16-$18-million tied up in one position? Maybe if you think having the best 48-minutes of point guard play in the NBA opens the door to the NBA Finals. This will be the toughest question Bryan Colangelo faces in the year ahead.
I know what we can do? We can waste $3 million each on Graham and Humphries (and $2mil on Baston) that we COULD have used on Calderon. That would make sense!
Maybe we’ll change our team name to the Toronto Suns and trade away all our draft picks for next year?
