“It was just important to find my rhythm,” said Dirk, who had 26 of his season-high 32 points in the second half. “I hadn’t really shot the ball well all season long, beside like one game. It was good to see, and we move on.”
Dirk’s aggressiveness didn’t end with his run of 25-foot rainbows. He took over the game in the final four minutes, making sure the Mavs didn’t blow the lead after such a magnificent comeback.
Dirk drove to the hoop on three consecutive possessions after the Raptors pulled within four with a little more than four minutes to go. The results: lefty finger roll, layup and two free throws.
And Dirk delivered the dagger, making sure he had a clearout against Andrea Bargnani and going to work. He took Bargnani off the dribble, spun to his left at the elbow and swished a sweet 16-foot fadeaway.
Much has been made of Dirk’s improved passing. But Mark Cuban pays Dirk megamillions to be a scorer, first and foremost.
Dirk admits that he’s still figuring out when to distribute and when to dominate.
