Bosh hopes to end slump
globesports.com: Bosh hopes to end slump
His performance this season not only pales in comparison to his play last year, but also in comparison to Bosh’s own expectations. He said before the season he hoped to average 12 rebounds a game and yesterday allowed that he wanted to shoot 55 per cent from the floor. And while the 23-year-old hasn’t said what he envisioned for a scoring average, if he made 55 per cent of his field goals it wouldn’t take much for Bosh to average 25 points a game.
Those numbers might as well be a mirage now as Bosh had to shut down his off-season training in August and September to solve the heel problems that bothered him most of last season. Also, he missed three weeks of training camp when he sustained a knee injury in a collision with Joey Graham during a Raptors’ scrimmage on Oct. 3 in Italy.
Typically Bosh spends August and September playing full-speed pick-up games against other NBA players. The exhibition season and training camp are simply for finishing touches.
He didn’t have that luxury this season and for a player who thrives on repetitions and routine as much as pure talent, it’s been a challenge.
