On the one hand, Maceo Baston admitted he was surprised when Sam Mitchell pulled him aside at shootaround yesterday and told him he would be his starting centre last night with Rasho Nesterovic sidelined with a sprained ankle.
Baston has dressed for exactly one game this season coming into last night. The other seven he has been on the bench in his street clothes.
On the other hand, if there is a team Baston has a little more knowledge of than any other it would have to be last night’s opponent, the Indiana Pacers. Baston, who spent last season in Indiana, didn’t get the kind of court time he would have like in Indiana but he did prastice every day with the team and each day he was matched up against Jermaine O’Neal.
“I was kind of surprised. I mean I knew Rasho was banged up so I expected I would be (active) for the game but I didn’t think starting. Then again, I played against Jermaine every day in practice, so I know him pretty well. Hopefully I can get in there and make some things happen.”
