They spent two years at the University of Central Florida before deciding they wanted to face tougher competition, which led them to Oklahoma State.
Their styles are different. Joey, 6-7, 225, is longer, but prefers playing in the post. Stephen, 6-6, 215, is stronger, but likes playing on the perimeter.
Joey, who is 10 minutes older than Stephen, also was quicker to the NBA. He was selected No. 16 overall by Toronto in 2005. He is averaging 6.5 points in his career.
Stephen wasn’t drafted and bounced around with several teams before landing with the Pacers.
“I was always the big brother growing up,” Joey said. “I was always the one in the forefront. Stephen has done a great job of kind of taking a backseat, but I’m always encouraging him. He’s my best friend. I’ve always been in his corner. It’s kind of like a bittersweet thing.”
Stephen added, “He took his road and I took my road. We just had different paths. I don’t look at it as one is in the other’s shadow.”
