http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/276253“It’s just a different scenario. Those guys get to play major minutes and the team really revolves around those guys,” said Ford, who averages 28 minutes to Calderon’s 19. “My situation is different, being able to have Jose and being able to split time.”
He said he understands individual reputations may be restrained, but not within the industry.
“I think everybody around the NBA knows what me and Jose are capable of doing and how effective we are. As far as national exposure, no. But it doesn’t really matter,” Ford said. “It’s how we’ve been successful here. I just accept the role that I have. It allows me to be fresh and do my job. I don’t worry about trying to be on the same level as those guys as far as minutes, or exposure. If I do what I’m supposed to do while I’m in the game, everything will take care of itself.”
They certainly say all the right things, as does Sam Mitchell, who appreciates the gaudy numbers as much as the rightful owners.
“It’s not about individual stats, it’s about team building,” the coach said. “It’s about running the team, controlling the team, controlling the tempo, making sure our guys get the ball where they need it and get good shots. And T.J. and Jose are both doing it.”
