Parker was a first-round pick in 1997 by the New Jersey Nets (21st overall) after a stellar career at Bradley. The Nets traded his rights to the 76ers on draft night. Parker played in 37 games as a rookie and averaged 1.9 points. He played in two games the next season before breaking his foot. He spent the next eight years trying to get back to the NBA.
“There were a lot of nights dressing in street clothes,” Parker said about his time with the Sixers. “I never got a chance to be a part of the team.”
Parker still isn’t a well-known player in NBA circles. He isn’t even the most well-known player in his family. His sister is Tennessee star Candace Parker.
But he’s back in the NBA, and to Parker, that’s all that matters.
