Orlando’s Howard pure Magic
http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/274697He did it the old-fashioned way, by hammering the ball inside aggressively and taking it up strong. When the Magic didn’t send second-man help on defence, Howard began to pick up fouls.
His fourth arrived midway in the third quarter, necessitating a sit-down, and his fifth came on a Bosh drive with 9:48 remaining in the game. Toronto immediately went on a 13-2 run and Howard returned with 5:28 left.
So what happened with Howard back and vulnerable? Nothing good, that’s what.
Think back to Sunday, when Bosh’ second-half resurgence helped put the great Kevin Garnett into similar foul trouble; his fifth came with about nine minutes left.
Yet the Raps couldn’t chase the Celtics’ best man out of the game and he killed them in overtime.
They couldn’t chase Howard out of this one – especially not by hoisting up long jump shots – and Howard, Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis finished them off.
“We played better than we did last night,” Mitchell said, which surely is damning with faint praise.
They couldn’t have played any worse and they can still play a lot better.
