On the court, they did get a lot accomplished, allaying the fears of Mitchell, who thought there might be too many demands on his players that would distract from the basketball job at hand.

But a loss to Real Madrid on Thursday exposed some flaws and there remains plenty of questions to be answered. But they got in as much work in Treviso, Rome and here as they would have in Waterloo or St. Catharines or some other lesser locale.

“You know what’s crazy? We got probably 85 per cent of what we’re going to put in for the start of the season already in,” said coach Sam Mitchell. “So right now a lot of our practices now are reviewing.
