There are nights when Rasho Nesterovic is going to watch the Raptors rather than play for them.

The veteran centre didn’t get on the court Sunday against Lottomatica in Rome because of matchup problems and that’s the way it’s going to be some nights in the NBA regular season, coach Sam Mitchell said.

The Rome team had a collection of mobile big men who played on the perimeter rather than in the low post and would have rendered Nesterovic a liability.

“It would have been a disservice to Rasho to have him chase guys 25 feet from the basket,” Mitchell said. “We know the matchups we need him for.”

Darrick Martin is the only Toronto player who didn’t play in either exhibition game in Rome.
